Today I read

Today I did something I haven't done for such a long time.. I think probably not since I've had children.

I read a book.  All day long.  Started it this morning and finished it this evening.

It was totally selfish and probably not my best parenting moment, but it was bliss.

The kids played around me, obviously I fed them and put them down for rests, stuff like that.  I even read a few picture books and broke up a few fights.  But basically I sat on the couch all day and read while they played around me.

The house is a total mess, there are dishes piled up in the sink, dirty washing waiting to be hung out.  But is was so nice.

This is what I read.. The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen.  A bit of magical realism which isn't for everyone but I enjoy it - I like to believe every day life can be a little bit magic.

I've read a few books by this author and I have enjoyed all of them.  Engaging and interesting and imaginative.  Perfectly light and charming.

I've discovered a bit of a theme to the books I read for pure enjoyment.  They're always books about strong women helping each other out, in places where the culture has a strong influence on women's behaviour and there's often a little bit of the mystical, making every day life just a little bit magic.  This book has all those ingredients.

Love a lazy summer's read.
