Before Christmas I bought some material to make myself a skirt with a shirred top.. super comfy for pregnancy. I finally finished it the other day (with about 3 weeks to go until little bubbles #3 is due).
I've never tried sewing the the elastic in the bobbin before, it's so easy I think I might need to plan a few more skirts for myself and the girls. I put a casing in the top of the skirt and put some proper elastic in that too and I didn't sew up the little opening so there's a chance i might be able to decrease the amount of elastic in the top bit and keep wearing it after the baby is born. Cause I actually like it, which is amazing since it's the first thing I've sewn for myself ever unless you count a few very dodgy attempts during grungy uni days (hello mum's green velveteen dressing gown i turned into pants to wear to a Smashing Pumpkins concert).
It is super comfy too, and just in time. Bye bye toes, hello cankles. It's so hot and humid up here lately and it's not fun. My other two girls were well and truly winter babies and I'm not liking this being pregnant in the heat thing.
At first I made the skirt too big, I wasn't really sure how much the shirring would reduce the fabric I'd bought (it's a linen and it reduced by about 1/3 FYI). Anyway, I cut out a panel and it ended up being enough to fit around Polly so she got a skirt too. It's ok, we didn't wear them on the same day.
2 skirts in 1 week. I'm on a roll.
