Home alone

Today is my first day home with Matilda without G, who has gone back to work today. I have to admit I was a bit nervous about being home all day with her by myself. Not knowing if she was going to have a big crying fit and I wouldn't know what to do with her. But so far we have had a really good day and it's already 3.15!

This morning we went for a drive to do some banking for the cafe and a quick visit to Spotlight. Luckily for me Matilda loves going for drives in the car and either sits there quietly looking around her or falls asleep. In Spotlight I found this cute wooden pencil box with coloured pencils and a sharpener. I am not sure why I need this but I love how it looks and it cost $4, so I had to have it. I am partial to a bit of colouring in still, and Matilda is nearly old enough, right? :)

When we got home we hung out a bit in the nice QLD winter sun while I hung out the washing, then she had a bit of a play with our jungle friends.

And right now Matilda is having a little nap in her cot and I spose I should be as well, but there is so much other stuff (housework) to do! Matilda didn't seem to like being in her cot much but a friend of ours told us to try putting her to sleep in the cot on top of a t-shirt that I'd been wearing so she could still smell her mum and it seems to be working really well. We've also discovered at night time that she likes being in a sleeping bag more than just clothes, I don't know if it's because its warmer or just cause she can move her legs around a bit more but it's working well, so who cares why.

Almost 2 weeks in...

mThanks everyone for your comments and well wishes. We're doing pretty well, although the days and nights are still passing by in complete blur.

Matilda is sleeping pretty well during the day time, but she doesn't like nights so much. We've had a couple of interesting ones so far.

Apart from eating and sleeping we've been trying on some of our new shoes. Most of our clothes are still too big for us though which is a bit sad, I'm sure we'll grow into them soon enough.

Our main aim for today is to get the house a little tidied up again, we seem to be very good at making messes quickly. We also have lots of beautiful bunches of flowers from family and friends that need watering or some sadly need to be thrown out now. We were very spoiled.

G is going back to work on Thursday so that's going to be interesting. In some ways I'm looking forward to it though, I feel like we need to work out how our days are going to be from now on. Maybe I'm crazy to think that's something I'm going to be able to work out though. Who knows, at least we're having fun.

And in about 10 days we're coming to Melbourne for my sister in laws wedding and to catch up with family and friends so we need to get ready for that! Yay, Melbourne!

Matilda Ruth

She came early!!

Matilda Ruth was born on Thursday 17th July at 4.18pm.

She weighed 3.57kg (which was a big surprise to us, we were expecting a 4kg little chubba) and she was 52.5cm long.

We came home from hospital on Sunday and we're all doing pretty well.

It's still unbelievable and amazing and we're all trying to work out what we're meant to be doing now :)

More to come...

And some more photos over here.

Just add baby

Baby 'corner' ready to go, just need the baby now. Yesterday I even got the little shack cleaned so I'm feeling a lot more ready and organised now.

The bubba has way too many clothes already... courtesy of mine and my sister's very bad shopping habits. But also we've already been spoiled with lots of presents from relies and friends. This is the bit where we really hope the sonographer was right about it being a girl. I keep hearing stories lately of when they got it wrong, but I guess they're the stories that are a lot more fun to tell.

We are a little prepared for it to be a little boy, in as much as not all the clothes we're taking to hospital are girly... but that's about it.

Tamar Mogendorff

I can't remember where it was I read about this artist, but I think her creations are absolutely beautiful. I especially love the bird houses.

They can be found at this great website, along with lots of other pretty things to look at.

And in keeping with the bird theme, I am also loving these counting bird wall art cards, available here.

Procrastinating

What better way to avoid all the things I should be doing then by playing around with a new look for my blog. I have a serious talent for procrastination.

Ready and a swap update

12 days to go until my due date...

Bags are packed, car seat has been fitted, baby 'corner' is set up and ready to go and the freezer is pretty well stocked with some frozen dinners.

I almost feel organised and ready to go.

Except for the fact that our little studio needs cleaning, I have a bunch of fabric sitting on my desk waiting to be sewn into things for presents and little bubbles and the quilt I really wanted to finish still hasn't progressed much further. Not to mention tax stuff for the cafe. And then there's the little fact that for some crazy reason I volunteered this year to organise the cookery competition at the local show which is on next weekend, what was I thinking? Oh well, it will all come together somehow.

Thanks to everyone that signed up for the baby shower swap too... everyone should have their swap partners by now. I can't wait to see what everybody makes and receives. There are 2 people who have signed up for the swap who I don't have any contact details for.. so Stacy and Jen if you could drop me an e-mail then I'll send you details of your swap partners.

I'm hoping next week I get a chance to do a little bit of crafting and have some pretty things to post about before there are baby photos to show. We'll see how we go!

Chasing Harry Winston

So much for hospital reading... waking up in the middle of the night with sore hips and not being able to fall back asleep meant that this book didn't last very long.

I like reading books like this - fun, easy to get into and with a nice happy ending.

I've read the Devil Wears Prada (which I loved) and Everyone Worth Knowing (which I didn't think was so great) and Chasing Harry Winston is a good one again, in my opinion anyway. This book is perfect holiday reading material.

Only slightly distracted..

From working on the quilt. But I am making progress, honest.

My cousin and her little 4 month old man came to visit from Townsville for a few days.

So I got a little distracted from working on the quilt to make him a little pair of lounging pants, just what every 4 month old needs.

And luckily they fit him pretty well, so I think I might need to make little bubbles a more girly pair. After I've finished the quilt, of course.
